Project Overview

For this project, I designed a Black Friday promotional call-to-action (CTA) section for a website. The image and text were provided, and my role was to create an engaging and visually compelling design that effectively captured the urgency and excitement of the Black Friday sale.

Design Approach

One of the key principles I applied in this design was visual tension, which can make a composition more dynamic and engaging. Tension in design is created by disrupting balance and introducing elements that evoke movement or drama. In this project, I strategically used tension techniques to draw attention to the CTA and enhance the overall impact of the design.

Techniques Used to Create Tension

  • Tilting Elements & Angles: Introducing dynamic angles in the layout to create a sense of energy and urgency.
  • Placing Objects on the Edge: Positioning elements near the edges of the frame to create a feeling of instability and excitement.
  • Moving Elements Out of Balance: Avoiding perfect symmetry to add visual interest and guide the viewer’s eye toward the CTA.
  • Extreme Cropping & Hiding Parts of the Object: Cutting off parts of images or text strategically to build intrigue and direct focus.
  • Overlapping Elements: Layering elements to create depth and interaction between components.

Avoiding Unnecessary Tension

While intentional tension enhances design, unintentional tension can create confusion. I ensured that spacing between elements was deliberate, avoiding accidental overlaps or awkward positioning that could distract from the CTA.

Final Outcome

The final design successfully amplified the Black Friday urgency, leading users toward the desired action. By leveraging tension in a controlled and strategic manner, the section stood out, grabbed attention, and maintained a strong visual hierarchy.

This project highlights my ability to balance aesthetics with functionality, using design principles to enhance user engagement and conversion rates.
